Over 120,000 students have benefited from ‘No Fees Stress’ Policy – SLTF

The Director of Corporate Communications at the Students’ Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), Obeng Agyenim Boateng, has revealed that more than 120,000 students have had their fees reimbursed under the government’s flagship ‘No Fees Stress’ policy.
The equity-based initiative seeks to remove financial barriers to tertiary education by covering academic-related fees for all first-year students enrolled in public tertiary institutions.
In an interview on Monday, August 18, 2025, Mr. Boateng explained that students who have yet to receive the funds may have inconsistencies in their submitted documents.
“The student loan trust fund, as we speak, has been able to reimburse academic user fees to 120,000 students across the country. In every system, when we are dealing with such issues and numbers, there will be issues and discrepancies. This is not an exception,” he said.
Mr Obeng Boateng continued: “We encountered a number of challenges. One has to do with the mismatch of information that was presented to us by students. So that became a challenge when I came paying such students,” he said.
The ‘No Fees Stress’ policy was first announced by President John Dramani Mahama during the 2024 election campaign, with a pledge to waive academic user fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions within his administration’s first 120 days.
The government officially launched the policy on Friday, July 4, 2025.
