NPP to enforce strict verification in new delegate registration – Haruna Mohammed

Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has assured that the party will leave no room for manipulation as it begins registering additional delegates ahead of its presidential primary on January 31, 2026.
The exercise, which runs until September 19, 2025, follows resolutions from the NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra. According to the Presidential Elections Committee, the expansion seeks to update the delegate base and formally include categories such as past MPs, former ministers, ex-MMDCEs, TESCON leaders, and external branch executives.
In an interview on the Channel One Newsroom on Tuesday, August 26, Haruna Mohammed explained that every applicant will undergo strict verification at the constituency and regional levels before their names are validated nationally.
He stressed that the measures are designed to maintain the credibility of the register, which he described as the “electoral album” of the party, adding that only names that pass all levels of checks will be included.
“If you are a former executive, if you are a former regional executive, if you are a former MMDCE, and you are still a member of the party, you know you would have to go to the constituency to write your name, or you will download the form, fill it, and send it to the constituency party.
“The constituency would know whether you have left the party or are still in the party. All these verifications will be done.
“There are former members of parliament who are not known members of the party, so all these verifications will be done. Afterwards, the national party will also do a validation system. Before we went for the last presidential election, we validated the list of delegates on our delegate system. We sent out a certain criteria, and the people went through checks; those who are dead, those who are alive. So we will make sure there will be a vigorous process to be able to ascertain the authenticity of those persons who have written their names,” he stated.
The expanded voter register, also known as the “album,” now includes: Former regional and constituency executives, Members of the Council of Elders and Patrons, Past Members of Parliament,
Former ministers and MMDCEs, TESCON leaders, Current and former external branch executives.
