Northern Importers/Exporters schooled on AfCFTA

Importers and Exporters duly recognized under the Ghana Shippers authority have been taken through the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to help broaden their understanding in the market.

The training which aims to educate importers and exporters alike, is also to create awareness on the AfCFTA and to help proffer solutions on how to access the markets available to stakeholders.

The AfCFTA aims at accelerating intra-African trade and boosting Africa’s trading position in the global market, by strengthening Africa’s common voice and policy space in global trade negotiations.

According to the Branch Manager – Isaac Tersiah Ackwerh,  the AfCFTA is undoubtedly the biggest free market in the world which seeks to bring all buyers and sellers together at a more reduced duty rate for both importers and exporters.

Speaking on behalf of the CEO of Ghana shippers authority, Madam Sylvia Asana Dauda Owu underscored the important role international trade plays in the world’s economy, hence making it necessary for shippers to understand the rules and procedures governing the implementation of the AfCFTA.

For the known fact that the three regions of the Northern provides lots of non-traditional exports to generate foreign exchange for the country, the shippers authority found it prudent to organize the forum on AfCFTA in Tamale for shippers in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions, to help take advantage of available opportunities.

Madam Sylvia Asana has thus encouraged shippers to consider the AfCFTA as an opportunity to boost their trade, mitigate the harsh effects of the Covid-19 and reinvigorate their businesses.

Meanwhile she pledged the Ghana shippers authority’s resolve to continue to protect and promote the interest of shippers by the dissemination of timely and relevant information and educational activities to help shippers make informed decisions.
