MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to fight against momo fraud together with relevant stakeholders to help protect the funds of customers.
Although mobile money has contributed immensely to Ghana’s socio-economic growth, it has also been the target of some unscrupulous persons who continue to perpetuate financial crime and MoMo fraud.
Data from the Bank Of Ghana reveals that total electronic money related losses from 2022 amounted to GHS 26 million, representing a 103% increase from that of 2021.
This therefore calls for the need to increase fraud awareness and beef up security measures.
Collins Agyei, MTN Area Sales Manager-Northern Ghana, who made this known at the Tamale taxi rank, was speaking during the 2023 Momo season launch.

He noted that through robust and stringent measures, multi-sectorial collaboration as well as intensified public education, MTN will continue to tackle MoMo fraud and bring perpetrators to book.
“We recently signed an MOU with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), a partnership we believe will go a long way in addressing MoMo fraud and bringing the perpetrators to book”.

On the way forward, Mr. Agyei reaffirm that, MTN Ghana and MobileMoney Limited are committed to leading the delivery of a bold, new digital world and brightening the lives of its customers.
He has thus called on their valued partners, to put hands on deck to help achieve this feat.
On his part, Mr. Aseye Kwami Akude, Manager Retail Experience-Northern Area, said since its launch in 2009, MTN MoMo has redefined Ghana’s financial services industry, an innovation that has continued to boost financial inclusion and brought financial services to the doorstep of Ghanaians.

He added, that the ease and convenience of transactions and the reach across the country has boosted financial inclusion, made payments innovative and created jobs for many people.

The months of August and September are set aside annually to celebrate and highlight the importance of the MTN mobile money service to the Ghanaian economy, create awareness about MoMo, bring the service to the doorstep of a lot more Ghanaians, celebrate and recognize valued partners and the over 11 million subscribers who use our MTN MoMo.
