Kofi Adams proposes special security measures for Kotoko after fatal stabbing

Sports and Recreation Minister-designate Kofi Adams has called for a special security arrangement for Asante Kotoko in the Ghana Premier League following the tragic stabbing of a supporter last Sunday.

Kotoko fan Francis Frimpong, also known as Pooley, was fatally stabbed after clashes erupted following the club’s matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC.

Speaking on The Pulse on Joy News, Adams highlighted the recurring security concerns whenever Kotoko plays in certain regions, suggesting that additional measures are necessary.

“One thing from my reading is that anytime Kotoko is playing a match in that part of the country, there seems to be some unpleasant situations,” he noted.

“Sometimes not just on the pitch, but after the game, and even at times, on their way back, they encounter such incidents. What it means also is that some special arrangement will have to be made for Kotoko anytime they have to have that match in that area.”

He assured that security protocols at league venues would be enhanced to prevent future incidents.

“You are not going to have the same thing as in the past. We will improve security at the venues,” he added.

The Ghana Football Association has suspended all Ghana Premier League matches and imposed an indefinite home ban on Nsoatreman FC.
