GUMANI FC WINS MTN GHANA SAVANNAH FEST FOOTBALL GALA

Gumani FC has won this year’s MTN Ghana Savannah Fest football gala, defeating Sakasaka FC two goals to nil in the final.

The victory earned Gumani FC a cash prize of 20,000 Ghana cedis, while Sakasaka FC received 10,000 cedis for finishing second.

Sabonjida FC placed third and received 5,000 cedis, with Shishegu FC finishing fourth.

Speaking to Fiila News, Gumani FC coach, Abdul Latif Wakil, said the team’s previous performance, when they finished fourth, motivated them to return to the drawing board and develop a stronger strategy for this year’s competition.

He said the team worked hard and remained determined to improve on its previous performance, which contributed to their success.

Coach Abdul Latif Wakil also appealed to MTN to engage football experts and scouts to assess the competition in future, saying this could help identify talented players for bigger tournaments.

Meanwhile, Sakasaka FC coach, Safianu Yassir, said his team played well and started the final strongly but unfortunately could not secure the desired result.

He said the team remains hopeful of returning stronger in the next edition and working towards winning the trophy.

The Retail Experience Manager for MTN’s Northern Sector, Kwame Aseye, said the football gala formed part of the month-long Savannah Fest activities, which were particularly significant this year as MTN Ghana celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The anniversary is being celebrated under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You, Our Customers.”
According to him, this year’s football gala was expanded from eight to sixteen teams, bringing more communities together, promoting unity and creating a platform for local football talents to showcase their abilities.

He said Savannah Fest has been running for more than ten years, while the football gala has also been held for nearly a decade.

Mr Aseye expressed satisfaction with this year’s celebration and promised that MTN would work towards making next year’s Savannah Fest bigger, better and more exciting.
