Ghana’s Gold exports reach 66.7 tonnes in first 8 months of 2025 – GoldBod

Ghana exported 66.7 tonnes of gold between January and August 2025, surpassing volumes recorded in 2024, according to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

Deputy Media Relations Officer of GoldBod, Zainab Alhassan, disclosed the figures in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, September 17.

She explained that the improved performance is largely due to the government’s intensified crackdown on illegal mining and gold smuggling.

Ms. Alhassan noted that Ghana exported about 54 tonnes of gold in 2024, a figure significantly lower than this year’s record.

“From the statistics, the revenue we have generated, we realised it’s below expectations. But ever since the hunt for gold smugglers came into the picture, we have been able to at least let me say that with the small gold exports, we have been able to export as much as 66.7 tonnes of gold from January to August alone.

“And it is worth approximately $6 billion, compared to 2024, where I think export was 54 or something tonnes of gold. Last year’s [2024] record was lower compared to this year’s [2025] record of gold we have been able to export so far.

It all comes down to the fight against galamsey that has given birth to this great performance by the GoldBod,” she said.
