Ghana Immigration Service to Reopen Savelugu Inland Post to fight Covid-19

The Ghana Immigration Service has warned citizens who leave closer to bother towns to desist from smuggling foreigners into the country through unapproved routes, or risk being dealt with according to the law.

The Service is also urging border residents to comply with the president’s directive and cooperate and assist the officers at the borders, to apprehend people who enter the country illegally.

In the wake of the novel coronavirus, the president of the Republic of Ghana issued a directive on the closure of the country’s borders.

However, due to the porous nature of our borders some foreign nationals have been sneaking in and out of the country through these unapproved routes.

To this end, the Ghana Immigration Service has indicated it is necessary to reopen the Savelugu inland post among several others which has not been operational for some time now, to check the movement of people and also curb the influx of foreigners who use illegal means to enter the country.

This was contained in a press release issued to FiilaNews and signed by the Northern Regional Public affairs manager of the Immigration service, ICO Christian Kobla Kekeli Zilevu.

This according to the release would help contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.

“The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service is, by this release, informing the general public, particularly, the people of the region about the reopening of the inland post in the Savelugu Municipality hence, a call on the general public to corporate with officers in the fight against Covid 19.”

Currently Ghana has a total of 636 novel coronavirus cases with eight deaths and 17 recoveries.
