Ghana coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren elated with Black Queens progress and growth at WAFCON 2024
The head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has stated that he is delighted with the progress and improvement of his team at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana kicked off its campaign at the ongoing tournament in Morocco with a 2-0 defeat to defending champions South Africa. The Queens have since won two matches and drawn one.
On Saturday night, Ghana defeated Algeria on penalties to advance to the semi-final of the tournament.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren stressed the importance of the team’s growth and their chances of winning the 2024 WAFCON.
“I think it’s always important in a tournament that you are growing as a group. If you’re looking at the best teams in the tournaments, even if you look at the men’s football or World Cup or whatever it is, it’s maybe not the team that wins the first game with 5-0 or whatever it is that’s going to win the whole tournament,” the Ghana coach shared.
Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren continued, “It’s the team that keeps growing and taking it step by step and you have players that are showing up that you maybe haven’t seen before. I think it’s amazing with this group how they are moving forward the whole time and players that are taking their chances. I’m happy to be a coach for this really great group of talented players.”
Ghana, after overcoming Algeria in the quarter-final, will now take on Morocco in the semi-final on Tuesday, July 22.
