We’ve abandoned our dream to establish Igbo village in Ghana long ago – Igbo Leader

Leader of the Igbo community in Ghana, Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu has said the dream to establish an Igbo village in Ghana for his people was abandoned long ago in 2013 after thye could not secure land for the intended project.

He stressed that currently they don’t owe not even a piece of land in Ghana for such a project.

“I’m telling the truth because there is no land anywhere. We have no single land that we want to develop as Igbo village as far as I am concerned now. And honestly, the vision of that particular land did not hold and I have abandoned this long ago,” he told host of TV3 Hot Issues, Keminni Amanor on Sunday, July 20, 2025.

Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu explained that the rational to establish the Igbo village was to provide security, peace and free the Igbo business owners living in Ghana from harassment by Ghanaian counterparts in the local markets.

“As I am talking to you, I was called this afternoon that some people are disturbing the Igbos somewhere in Circle where they sell at tiptoe lane so those are the things that were coming to my mind for we to have a mall so that we don’t have that problem with the indigenes who are in the local market but then this has been abandoned for many years,” he added.

He maintained innocence of claims to build a Kingdom in Ghana. According to him, his intention was to only set up a village or estate to house the Igbo people and not build a Kingdom.

“The bloggers misinterpreted and fed the people fake information saying I said that we want to build Igbo Kingdom which is not so,” he stressed.

Eze Chukwudi’s intention was to establish a big community covering about 50 acres of land to be used as an estate for Igbo people with houses, hotels, shopping malls, accommodation for rent to Igbo people, market centres etc.

However, his dream could not materialize as he could not acquire the land intended for the project.

Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu was made leader of the Igbo community in Ghana in 2012. He disclosed that soon after he was made leader, together with other leaders they met with the Chief of Old Ningo, Nene Osoroagbo Djangmah XII.

The King, he said promised to sell to them 50 acres of land to be used to develop the Igbo village. After holding discussions with the King, he said they were sent to see the land where they took images and videos of it and promised to come back later and settle the payment.

Three months after, Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu and his members approached the Chief to settle half payment but were told the land in question is embroiled with litigation issues and so could not be sold to them anymore.

“So we keep going front and back from 2013, it is not working out then we dropped that vision,” he stated.
