Final Funeral rites for Murtala Mohammed to be held on August 12

The family of late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and former Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Murtala Mohammed have slated tomorrow August 12, 2025 to perform his final funeral rites in Tamale

Late Dr Murtala Mohammed was buried on Sunday August 10 in Accra.

The late Tamale central MP died in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday August 6 together with seven others onboard the helicopter.

Hundreds of sympathizers including ministers of state and other mourners have since gathered at his family house in Tamale.

In a related development, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, has urged Ghanaians not to dismiss prophetic messages from religious leaders, emphasizing the importance of spiritual guidance in times of crisis.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the residence of Alhaji Muniru on Monday, August 11, 2025, following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two ministers of state, Bagbin called for greater reverence for religious counsel.

“The Imams, pastors, reverends, we should listen to them. Not all of them are seeking money. Don’t take what they say for granted. If they say act, act,” he advised.

Bagbin revealed that he has faced multiple threats in the past but has always taken prophetic warnings seriously.

“I’ve been threatened many times, and I’ve listened to the prophecies. I don’t take them lightly. All these things work together for good. We should not ignore them. In this grief, let us not forget the power of the Almighty God.”

The Speaker cautioned the public against making premature assumptions about the helicopter crash, stressing that such tragedies can affect anyone.

“Their departure has changed all of us. When investigations are complete, we will know what happened. People should stop speculating, it could happen to any of us.”

He also criticized those who trivialize the lessons from such incidents.

“How do we know flying will bring tragedy to this nation? Instead of learning from these events, some people are playing with invisibility,” he said.

Bagbin emphasized the importance of gratitude and faith, even in difficult times, and assured the bereaved families of Parliament’s unwavering support.

“Our focus should be to thank God for what has happened. He knows best. We want to assure his family and constituents, we are together in this battle. Our hearts are also broken.”

Following the tragic loss, the nation has been thrown into a state of mourning as preparations are underway to hold a state funeral for the fallen heroes on Friday, August 15, 2025.
