Eric Tinkler confirms South Africa offer behind Kotoko resignation
Eric Tinkler has confirmed that an offer from South Africa was the main reason behind his decision to resign as Asante Kotoko head coach.
The South African coach revealed the development while addressing the Kotoko players following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Tinkler made it clear that his decision was not triggered by the defeat, insisting that he had already decided to leave the club before the match.
“Yesterday, this was a decision I had already made last week. And obviously, the chairman and myself, we’ve managed to keep that very quiet. And the request was that I stay until this game, which is exactly what happened,” he told the players.
He then confirmed that an opportunity to return to South Africa had presented itself and influenced his decision to end his short spell with Kotoko.
“This is the world of football. I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa. And that is the main reason why I made the decision,” Tinkler said.
Tinkler leaves Kotoko after just four league matches, with the club recording one win, two draws and one defeat under his leadership.
He is set to return to South Africa to take charge of Durban City, bringing an abrupt end to his time with the Porcupine Warriors.
