The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS is expected to donate US$250,000, equivalent to about GH₵3 million, to support victims of Ghana’s recent devastating floods.
This was announced by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in a Facebook post.
According to the Minister, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has officially been notified by ECOWAS of the donation, which is intended to provide relief to those affected by the floods.
He assured the public that, in the interest of transparency and accountability, the ministry will transfer the full amount to the appropriate authorities immediately after the funds are received in its accounts.
The ministry on behalf of the Ghanaian government expressed profound appreciation to ECOWAS for what it described as its solidarity and genuine African compassion during this difficult period.
The June 29 floods affected several communities across seven regions of Ghana, leaving thousands of households displaced and causing extensive damage to homes, businesses and critical infrastructure.
