Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe blames poor leadership for Hearts of Oak and Kotoko decline
Board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has pointed to weak leadership structures as the main cause of the recent struggles facing Ghana’s two most successful clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, the outspoken football administrator argued that the downturn in fortunes of the two traditional giants is not rooted in a lack of playing talent, but in systemic leadership failures at the top.
“The challenges facing Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are fundamentally a leadership responsibility,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.
He maintained that the decline of both clubs reflects deeper structural problems that have affected their competitiveness in the Ghana Premier League and on the continental stage.
Once dominant forces in Ghanaian football, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have struggled in recent seasons to maintain consistency, as emerging clubs increasingly match or surpass them in performance.
Their struggles have been particularly evident in CAF inter-club competitions, where early eliminations have become frequent, marking a sharp contrast to their historic success on the African stage.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed that without more strategic, accountable and forward-looking leadership, efforts to restore the two clubs to their former dominance are unlikely to succeed.
