Carlos Queiroz to arrive in Ghana this week to begin 2027 AFCON qualifiers
Carlos Queiroz is expected to arrive in Ghana this week after being reappointed as Black Stars head coach ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The 73-year-old, who guided Ghana to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup during a short-term spell in charge, has been handed another stint with the national team, although the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has yet to announce the details of his contract.
The Portuguese coach oversaw Ghana’s best World Cup run since 2010, leading the Black Stars into the knockout phase in North America.
Upon his arrival, Queiroz is expected to be formally reintroduced to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams before addressing the media.
It is understood that the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have agreed in principle to offer him a one-year contract, with the deal set to be extended if he secures qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
His immediate focus will be Ghana’s opening qualifying fixtures later this month.
The Black Stars travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire at the Stade de la Paix on 24 September before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
After failing to qualify for the previous AFCON in Morocco, Ghana will be aiming to make an immediate return to Africa’s premier football tournament.
