Cape Verde coach Bubista reveals Ghana contact for Black Stars head coach role
Cape Verde head coach Pedro Brito, popularly known as Bubista, has confirmed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has contacted him regarding the Black Stars head coach position.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Cape Verdean newspaper A Voz do Arquipélago, the experienced tactician revealed that he has received several offers but stressed that no decision has been made over his future.
According to Bubista, Ghana is among the national teams to have approached him as the Ghana FA continues its search for a new head coach.
The 55-year-old also dismissed reports from Morocco claiming he had already reached an agreement with CAF Confederation Cup holders RS Berkane. He insisted that despite ongoing speculation, he has not signed a contract with the Moroccan club or any other employer.
“I have several proposals, but nothing has been decided,” Bubista said, making it clear that discussions remain at an early stage.
Bubista’s stock has risen significantly in recent years following his impressive work with Cape Verde.
He guided the Blue Sharks to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations before leading the island nation to a historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, their first-ever appearance at the global showpiece.
At the World Cup, Cape Verde exceeded expectations by advancing from a difficult group featuring Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia before seeing their remarkable run come to an end in the Round of 32.
Cape Verde came from behind twice before losing 3-2 to finalists Argentina after extra-time.
Their performances further enhanced Bubista’s reputation as one of Africa’s most astute international coaches, having been named CAF coach of the year in 2025.
His confirmation is the first public acknowledgement that Ghana has made contact with him over the Black Stars job, placing him among the leading names under consideration for one of African football’s most high-profile coaching positions.
Whether the discussions progress into formal negotiations remains to be seen, with Bubista also weighing interest from club football as he considers the next chapter of his coaching career.
