Businessman wins Northern Region CPP Chairmanship

A 65-year-old businessman, Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Kubli, has been elected Northern Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).

He polled 104 votes to beat Seidu Yamusah, who had 35 votes, at the regional delegates’ conference held in Tamale on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.

Until his election, Alhaji Kubli was a regional vice chairman of the party.

The elections were supervised by the Regional Directorate of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Other officers

Other regional officers elected were Benjamin Azumah, a teacher, who polled 94 votes to win the regional organiser position as against 43 votes obtained by Ibrahim Mohammed, the party’s 2016 parliamentary candidate for Savelugu.

The incumbent Regional Secretary of the party, Mohammed Nuhu Jingli, and seven other officers, who went unopposed, were also confirmed.

They are the First Vice Chairperson, Seidu Hamza; the Second Vice-Chairperson, Abdulai Mandudgu; the Treasurer, Hajia Muniru Mohammed; the Women Organiser, Sayibu Abibata; the Youth Organiser, Mohammed Hafiz and the Education Secretary, Abdallah Muaz.

Victory speech

In a speech, Alhaji Kubli called on members of the party to get on board as the party kick-starts its reorganisation efforts towards the 2020 general election.

He pledged to work hard together with all the regional executives to improve on the electoral fortunes of the CPP in the region.

As part of his efforts to make the CPP more visible in the region, Alhaji Kubli pledged to build party offices across all the 18 constituencies in the region.
