Black Stars are a work in progress – GFA capo Kurt Okraku

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, beleives the Black Stars are still a work in progress despite the team's back-to-back wins.

After recording just two wins in 10 games in 2024 and failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament for the first time in two decades, the senior national team kicked off 2025 on a bright note.

In the Matchday 5 and 6 games of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers during the March international break, Otto Addo’s men secured an emphatic 5-0 win against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium before a 3-0 win against Madagascar in Morocco to end their six-game winless run.

The win has boosted the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the Mundial, which will be hosted in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.

Reflecting on the performance of the team, Mr Okraku praised the team but insisted that they are still a work in progress.

“Black Stars is a work in progress,” he told Asempa FM.

“The golden age of the Black Stars in 2006 I Germany and 2010 is yet to spark, but the unbelievable support from Ghanaians has been amazing,” he added.

The Black Stars will regroup in May for a four-nation tournament in London before taking on Chad and Mali in the Matchday 7 and 8 games of the qualifiers in September, before wrapping up their qualifiers against Comoros and Central African Republic.
