Black Princesses aim to break group stage jinx at U-20 Women’s World Cup
Gideon Fosu, the Black Princesses management committee chairman, has declared that the team's primary objective at the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is to advance beyond the group stage.
The Black Princesses have historically struggled to progress past this initial phase, but this year, they are determined to break that cycle.
In preparation for the tournament, the Black Princesses recently played a goalless draw against Mexico in an international friendly match held at Centro Deportivo Choquenza in Bogotá. This match served as a crucial warm-up ahead of the World Cup.
Fosu emphasized the team’s focus, stating, “Going into this tournament, our first aim is to move past the group stage and then take it game by game. That has been the motivation so far. This has been the story of the girls, the technical team, and everyone involved. In fact, this has been the request from the FA president as well. We are working very hard towards that.”
The Black Princesses are placed in Group E and will face Austria, Japan, and New Zealand in their quest to make history and advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.
