Bibiani GoldStars confirm Greek coach Petros Koukouras as new head trainer ahead of 2026/27 season

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions announced the appointment as preparations intensify for the new campaign, with the 37-year-old expected to lead the Miners into a new chapter following the departure of Swiss coach Fritz Markus Schmid.

Schmid parted ways with GoldStars earlier this month after taking charge of the club during the second half of the 2025/26 league season.

Koukouras arrives with extensive coaching experience from across East Africa, having built a strong reputation for his tactical approach and player development abilities.

The Greek coach began his managerial journey with Uganda’s Pacific Heroes FC before moving on to serve as assistant coach of the South Sudan national team. He later became head coach of Ugandan giants SC Villa Jogoo, where he was praised for his tactical discipline, leadership qualities and focus on nurturing young players.

In July 2023, Koukouras moved to Rwanda to take charge of Kiyovu Sports, further enhancing his profile as one of the emerging European coaches making an impact on the African football scene.

A holder of the UEFA A Licence, the new GoldStars boss is recognised for his modern coaching methods, structured approach and commitment to developing young talents.

His appointment is expected to bring fresh ideas and a new tactical direction to the Bibiani-based club as they prepare for another competitive Ghana Premier League campaign.

Club officials are confident that Koukouras’ international experience and technical expertise will strengthen the team and help the Miners achieve their ambitions in the upcoming season.
