Baffoe-Bonnie urges students to fight bullying, discrimination and injustice

Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has urged students in senior high schools to stand against bullying, discrimination and injustice, stressing the need for young people to uphold fairness and respect for others in their daily interactions.

He said the promotion of justice should not be left to judges and lawyers alone but must begin with individuals, particularly young people, through their conduct at home, in schools and within their communities.

Baffoe-Bonnie made the call in Tamale during the inauguration of Justice Clubs in seven selected senior high schools in the Northern and North East Regions.

The beneficiary schools are Savelugu Senior High School, Presbyterian Senior High School, Tamale, St Charles Minor Seminary Senior High School, Tamale Girls Senior High School, Tamale Senior High School, Dagbon State Technical Senior High School and Orange Girls at Walewale.

The inauguration, held on the theme, “Cybersecurity and Emerging Trends: Empowering the Youth in Today’s Digital Era,” also featured the swearing-in of elected executives of the clubs.

The Chief Justice explained that justice involved protecting vulnerable people, safeguarding the innocent and ensuring that those in positions of power were held accountable.

He encouraged students to demonstrate these values through everyday actions, including treating others fairly, refusing to bully weaker individuals, respecting differences and speaking out against wrongdoing.

He also cautioned students against spreading misinformation, particularly on social media, and urged them to verify information before sharing it or making allegations against others.

Mr Baffoe-Bonnie further challenged the newly sworn-in club executives to see their positions as opportunities to serve their colleagues rather than exercise authority over them.

He urged them to lead with honesty, humility and accountability, noting that effective leadership should be measured by the number of people who benefit from one’s service.

The Chief Justice also called on students to reject gender discrimination and stereotypes, urging female students not to allow societal expectations to limit their ambitions.
