Another MTTD police officer killed in Kintampo

An officer with the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has met his untimely death early Friday.

Inspector Foster Ampomah was overrun by a DAF truck with registration number GE 7562-14 after the driver ignored a signal by the officer to stop.

The incident occurred at a checkpoint at Nante Zongo along the Kintampo-Jema highway in the Bono East Region, Adom News’ correspondent, Nana Wiafe Akenteng has reported.

The truck was travelling from the Upper East Region capital, Bolgatanga and heading to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyau who confirmed the incident to Adom News, said the officer was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

He said the body has been deposited at the Kintampo Hospital morgue pending further investigations.

The driver, Awudu Sumaila, 30, and his mate who is not named, are in the custody of the police assisting with investigations.

He is the third traffic officer to have been killed in the line of duty in two weeks, after two of his colleagues, Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal, were shot dead by occupants of a vehicle they accosted after they refused to heed to their signal to stop.
