2026 World Cup: Augustine Arhinful warns squad quality will determine Black Stars’ fate

Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful says the players who will parade for the 2026 World Cup will determine how the Black Stars will fare.
His remarks come following the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the senior national team ahead of the Mundial this summer, which will be hosted across the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The Black Stars will come up against Panama, England and Mexico in Group L.
With Queiroz set to announce the final squad on June 1, Arhinful beleives our performance will be determined by the players selected by the technical handlers.
“But also, don’t forget that the players that we have and at any given time, the players that we are going to select, will determine how the team will perform,” he told Graphic Sports.
He also referenced assurances from the FA, suggesting that Queiroz’s preparation and data-driven approach could prove decisive.
Still, he pointed to encouraging signals from within the FA, saying: “I think I’ve read snippets of his interviews, and I know what I heard the FA spokesperson say, that he has all the data of the players, and he has been following the players. So, we will just have to believe what the spokesperson has said, and then we’ll run by it.”
Ghana will be making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Queiroz has been tasked with improving Ghana’s fortunes on the global stage after consecutive group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
