2024/25 Ghana Premier League: Week 22 Match Report- Accra Lions 3-0 Asante Kotoko

Accra Lions produced a dominant display to stun league leaders Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium and hand their survival chances a huge boost with a 3-0 victory at home.

Jacob Awoute, who was adjudged Man of the Match, opened the scoring early in the game before Yao Sokpoli doubled the advantage before half time.

Second half substitute David Akintunde sealed victory with a fine strike.

The visitors had started the game the brightest with Daniel Adjetey and Albert Amoah coming close while Musa Hamzata and Daniel Afful found themselves at the centre of miscommunication which almost resulted in the opener.

The host were immediately awoken from their slumber after a mazy run from Awoute to find Ahmed Yousif but the winger’s effort hit the post before the midfielder fired home after a double rebound.

Kotoko attacked from the other side through a corner kick which was taken by Adjetey and met in the air by Samba O’Neil.

Just before half time, Accra Lions doubled following another run through the middle by Awoute, who found Sokpoli with the Togolese slotting home calmly.

Lions coach Rainer Kraft replaced Sokpoli with Akintunde who made an instant impact, forcing Kotoko defence into making mistakes.

Kotoko asking many questions in the early minutes of the second half but could not make it count.

Accra Lions punished Kotoko following a swift counter attack with right back Fuzy Taylor serving Akintunde, who twisted and turned the Kotoko defence before firing home with a ferocious left foot.

Later in the game, Kwame Opoku and Amoah came close with winger Wisdom Bassey making some threatful runs on the flanks but Lions were equal to the task.
