Kumawood to demonstrate against gov’t for siting Film Village in Eastern Region

Film Producers, Actors and Directors in Kumasi under the umbrella of Kumawood, have served notice of an impending demonstration against government over a decision to site a proposed film village for the creative arts industry in the Eastern Region.

The group is pushing for the location of the facility in the Ashanti region instead according to its  Mr Samuel Nyamekye in an interview with Abusua FM in Kumasi.

The film makers say siting a Film Village in the Eastern Region in the first place is a misplaced priority and hence does not hold any merit on the movie industry and the country as a whole.

They argue that since Kumasi the capital of Ashanti Region in the past decade has become the hallmark for local film production in the country, it will be wise for any government to site the project in the region.

Geographically, Mr  Nyamekye noted that, since Kumasi is in the centre of the country, access to the village will be easy for all film producers.

The group noted that their agitation has no political backing hence no political party should try affiliating itself to their concerns.
