Win us the Ghana Premier League title – Asante Kotoko board chairman tells Eric Tinkler

Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Mr James Osei Brown, has charged newly appointed head coach Eric Tinkler to clinch the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League and build a competitive side.

The Porcupine Warriors confirmed the appointment of the South African trainer on a long-term deal ahead of the new football season.

In an official address, Mr Brown assured Tinkler of his support and charged him to build a team that will win the title.

“The expectation is that we want you to win us the league and then take us to where all of us want us to be,” he said.

“You have our full support,” Brown added.

Tinkler arrives with an impressive coaching experience, having managed several of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.

During his coaching career, he guided Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final, while also winning multiple domestic cup titles, including the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout.

Before moving into coaching, Tinkler enjoyed a distinguished playing career, captaining South Africa and earning 48 international caps.

He represented Bafana Bafana at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was part of the squad that won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations. At club level, he played in England, Italy and Portugal, featuring for Barnsley and Cagliari.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko has opened its pre-season camp, with Eric Tinkler leading the team. The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season will kick off on the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, and conclude on the weekend of May 28–31, 2027.
