‘Weak’ Black Stars technical team must be changed to enhance World Cup qualifying chances – Robert Sackey
Former Black Maidens coach, Robert Sackey says the technical team of the Black Stars must be changed to enhance the country's chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
His comments come after Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament scheduled to be hosted in Morocco next year.
The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F with three points after six games without winning a game.
Despite inspiring Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the Mundial after back-to-back wins against Mali and the Central African Republic, Sackey beleives the technical team which comprises Otto Addo, Joseph Laumann, John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda is weak and must be changed to enhance the team’s chances of qualifying for the global showpiece.
“Our technical team is inexperienced and that is why we are experiencing bad results,” he told Asempa FM.
“The approach needs to be changed. If the right approach is taken, it will bring about good results,” he added.
“If the Black Stars coach is not changed, it will be difficult to qualify for the World Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile, Otto Addo’s future will be decided by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday.
Ghana will resume its World Cup qualifiers in March 2025 with games against Chad and Madagascar.
