WAFCON 2026: Ghana to face Malawi in quarter-finals with qualification to World Cup at stake
Ghana will take on Malawi in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with a place at the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup at stake.
The Black Queens booked their place in the last eight after finishing second in Group D, while Malawi advanced from Group C following an impressive group-stage campaign.
The winner of the highly anticipated encounter will not only secure a place in the 2026 WAFCON semi-finals but will also qualify automatically for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Ghana sealed their place in the quarter-finals after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Mali in their final group match on Thursday.
Evelyn Badu opened the scoring for the Black Queens before Mali fought back to earn a share of the points, but Ghana progressed thanks to their superior goal difference.
Having reached the knockout rounds, the four-time African champions are now just one victory away from returning to the Women’s World Cup.
Malawi head into the quarter-final full of confidence after producing one of the surprise performances of the tournament.
The Scorchers secured their place in the knockout stage after finishing level on points with Nigeria in Group C and advancing on goal difference.
They will now be aiming to continue their remarkable run and secure a historic first qualification for the Women’s World Cup.
