VRA to withdraw some services in the Tamale Metropolis

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company of the Volta River Authority (NEDCo-VRA), has resolved to withdraw some services within the Tamale Metropolis and its environs.

The resolution which was taken by the leadership of the VRA/NEDCO Staff group, was passed at an emergency meeting of staff in the Northern area on September 27,2021.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association (SSC) of NEDCo, Mr. William K. Asare, the resolution became necessary in view of the recent attacks and vandalization  of the Tamale Northern Area office of NEDCo,and private vehicles by some irate youth of the metropolis.

Though several of such attacks on staff and property of VRA/NEDCo has occurred in recent past, the company is yet taking a concrete action in expressing their displeasure over the matter.

The statement further added that though the company is loosing GHC 8.4 million (45%) primarily to power theft in the Tamale Metropolis alone, it appears some residents are bent on preventing them carry out any revenue mobilization activities.

“We, the staff of VRA NEDCo resolve that our lives are under threat and we don’t feel safe to go out and work. We will however report to the office and carry out official assignments”.

Our resolution shall remain until our demands are met and the overall safety of staff are guaranteed, the statement added.
