Veep Opoku Agyemang commends outgoing Chinese Ambassador for dedicated service to Ghana

The Vice President, Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has commended the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, for a remarkable tour of duty.
She made the commendation when HE. Defa paid a farewell call in her at the Jubilee House in Accra on January 20.
Ambassador Tong Defa, who has served in Ghana for several years, noted that bilateral trade between the two countries has reached an unprecedented US$15 billion, reflecting the growing economic engagement. He also highlighted key initiatives undertaken during his tenure, including support for infrastructure and education projects.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for his dedicated service and significant contributions to strengthening Ghana–China relations. She particularly commended his role in advancing the zero-tariff agreement and facilitating Chinese government grants for the construction of the Aflao Market and the Catholic Science and Technology University in Damongo.
She encouraged Ambassador Tong Defa to continue fostering goodwill towards Ghana in his future assignments and reiterated the country’s commitment to expanding trade, investment, and people-to-people relations with China.
The Vice President also expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to President John Dramani Mahama during his recent visit to China, during which both countries agreed on a new blueprint for future engagements.
She emphasized the importance of continually reviewing and strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly in the context of an evolving global economic landscape.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang wished Ambassador Tong Defa safe travel and expressed confidence that the incoming Chinese Ambassador would continue to build on the strong foundation of cooperation between the two countries, noting, Ghana looks forward to sustained collaboration in trade, infrastructure, education, and other key areas of mutual interest.
