U20 AFCON 2025: Ghana sweeps MVP awards in all four matches
The Black Satellites of Ghana will leave Egypt with their heads high despite the disappointment of not qualifying FIFA U20 World Cup following their penalty shootouts defeat to the hosts on Monday evening.
Ghana were one of the best teams from the group stage, topping Group C after two wins and a draw to set up a quarter-final clash with Egypt.
The U20 team displayed enormous determination to come back from two goals down and force the game to penalties with a man down in extra time.
Throughout the competition, players of the Black Satellites were in fantastic form, walking away with the Man of the Match awards in all four games.
In the opening game against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Abdulhakim Sulemana dazzled and was the brightest spot as Ghana shared the spoils against the Central African nation. The Randers FC winger created several chances and was simply unplayable as DRC struggled to mark him out of the game.
The Black Satellites lifted their performance in the second match to beat champions Senegal 1-0. Emmanuel Mensah, the match winner, was awarded the Man of the Match. The Norway-based winger was a delight to watch on the left flank.
Aziz Issah burst into life in Cairo after a slow start, starring in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Central African Republic to book the team’s place in the last eight.
He was again outstanding for the team against Egypt but Sulemana’s second half cameo and strike saw him beat the Barcelona Athletic star to the award.
The players are expected to arrive in Ghana this week following their exit from the tournament.
