Thomas Partey booed in Arsenal’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey faced a hostile reception during Arsenal’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United on Sunday, January 12, 2024.

Partey came on as a substitute in extra time, replacing Dutch defender Jurrien Timber in the third-round match at the Emirates Stadium. However, he was greeted with boos from the travelling Manchester United supporters.

Every touch by the 31-year-old was met with jeers, but Partey maintained his composure and converted his spot-kick during the penalty shootout.

The game saw Manchester United take the lead through Bruno Fernandes, who capitalized on a slip by Gabriel Magalhães after receiving a quick pass from Alejandro Garnacho.

Arsenal levelled the score after United’s Diogo Dalot was shown a red card, with defender Gabriel netting the equalizer.

Despite their numerical advantage, Arsenal couldn’t find a winner in extra time, leaving the game tied at 1-1.

In the shootout, Kai Havertz missed a crucial penalty, allowing Manchester United to secure a 5-4 victory and progress to the fourth round.

Partey and his Arsenal teammates will now shift their focus to the Premier League, where they face Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
