Teacher Trainees urge resolution of strike as reopening date is revised

The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) have called on the government and stakeholders to resolve ongoing strike actions by teacher unions to avoid further disruptions to academic activities.
This appeal follows the strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), which began on January 2, 2025, and the anticipated strike by the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG), scheduled to start on January 13, 2025.
The CETAG strike, which has lasted over two months, has severely affected academic schedules, leaving teacher trainees frustrated.
In response to these challenges, the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) has postponed the reopening date for the 2024/2025 academic year to January 27, 2025.
Speaking to Citi News, the President of TTAG, Soale Razak highlighted the negative impact of the strike on their studies and called for swift intervention to restore normalcy.
“The CETAG strike and now the CENTSAG strike are affecting us as students, teaching and learning are unfortunately on hold. We still have the level 400 students having our macro teaching practice without any supervision because TTAG is on strike. For CENTSAG we hope that they will also call off their strike by the 27th so that they will be able to do other duties.
