Tamale: Police launch manhunt for armed suspect after cutlass attack,

Police in the Northern Region have launched a manhunt for a suspect identified only as Tobilana, who is on the run after allegedly attacking a young man with a cutlass and issuing death threats at Kunyevila, a suburb of Tamale.

The suspect is also believed to be in possession of firearms. However, police have since retrieved two assault rifles and over a hundred rounds of ammunition from his room.

His victim, 25-year-old Yahaya Abdul Rasheed, reported to the Tamale Central District Police Headquarters on Wednesday, April 8, with a deep cut on his forehead and multiple body injuries.

He told police that at about 2:30 p.m. that day, suspect Tobilana and nine accomplices attacked him following a misunderstanding.

The assailants allegedly inflicted the injuries with a cutlass and made away with his motorbike, two mobile phones, and GH¢2,800 in cash.

Addressing the press, Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe revealed that Tobilana later armed himself with a firearm and proceeded to the victim’s residence, where he allegedly threatened to kill him.

Acting on the report, officers conducted a search at the suspect’s room at Kunyevila a suburb of Tamale in the presence of independent witnesses.

Although Tobilana was not found, police retrieved the victim’s stolen motorbike, one SMG assault rifle with two magazines and 77 rounds of ammunition, and one G3 assault rifle with two magazines loaded with 38 rounds of ammunition.

“We urge the public that anybody with credible information should report the issue to the nearest police station,” DCOP Lavoe concluded.
