Tamale Central Hospital casual workers call off strike

Casual workers at the Northern Regional Hospital, also known as the Tamale Central Hospital, have called off their strike, which was prompted by over five months of unpaid salary arrears.

The industrial action had led to unsanitary conditions at the facility, with overflowing bins and washrooms in a deplorable state across several wards.

Following a Channel One News report on the situation, authorities—including the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS)—intervened, leading to the return of the orderlies to work.

However, speaking in an interview, the Secretary of the orderlies, Adam Sulemana Baba, cautioned that the group will resume the strike if their salaries are not paid as promised by Monday, March 3.

“The Director-General appealed to us to resume work and requested a grace period until the close of Monday. In respect of that appeal, we agreed to return to work. However, if our salaries are not paid by Monday, we will have no option but to resume the strike,” he said.
