SSNIT Engages Employers in Tamale, Unveils New Service and Loyalty Initiatives

The Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr. Kwesi Afreh Biney, says engaging the media and stakeholders forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen feedback systems, improve service delivery, and build public trust as the institution rolls out new initiatives.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Tamale, he reaffirmed SSNIT’s core mandate: to provide income security for workers by paying pensions to retirees—typically at age 55 or 60—offering invalidity benefits to members who can no longer work due to incapacity, providing emigration benefits for contributors leaving Ghana permanently, and paying survivors’ benefits when a contributor dies before the end of the guarantee period.

Mr. Biney noted that beyond its traditional role, SSNIT is repositioning itself as a service-led organization focused on convenience and added value for members.
As part of this shift, SSNIT has expanded its digital services, including the introduction of a fully operational virtual “54th branch” that enables members to access services online anywhere in the country.
The Trust is also partnering with banks to establish co-location points—100 of which are expected to be opened this year—allowing members to access SSNIT services at partner bank branches without the need to travel long distances.
With 2.1 million active contributors and over 267,000 pensioners, Mr. Biney described SSNIT’s membership base as a significant economic force. To enhance member benefits, the Trust is developing a loyalty programme that will offer discounts at selected retail outlets and service providers. Members will be identified through co-branded cards issued in collaboration with participating banks.
The Area Manager of SSNIT in Tamale, Mr. Seth Kpakpa Quartey, speaking on the theme “60 Years of Social Security: Employers Driving Compliance to Secure Ghana’s Workforce,” emphasized the critical role employers play in sustaining Ghana’s social security system.
He said the workshop provides a vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of practical solutions to improve employer compliance, service delivery, and stakeholder relationships. Mr. Quartey highlighted SSNIT’s ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility through digital innovation, expanded service points, and continuous stakeholder engagement.
He expressed gratitude to employers for their cooperation in ensuring that workers retire with dignity and encouraged participants to take time to enjoy the rich culture and hospitality of Tamale.
The engagement also featured an open forum where participants asked questions and shared concerns regarding SSNIT operations.
