Most Residence of Tamale have taken to social media to express their fear alongside their disappointment in the youth of the biggest opposition party (NDC) for resorting to destabilize the peace enjoyed by the people of the area after the elections.

Amidst the burning of lorry-tires, a crowd believe to be NDC supporters, from different parts of the city yesterday night, were expressing their approval over the decision by the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama to reject the election verdict by the Electoral Commission (EC).

FiilaFm sources indicate that the mayhem that started in the hours of 10pm yesterday, was witnessed in areas such as Choggu, Tishegu, Kalphoni, King David Junction, Fatawu Bicycles, Afa Ajura Mosque, Agric Traffic Light, the Goil Station opposite Absa Bank, Kakpayili, and many other places.

The act which is caused by the NDC supporters in the region saw these youth burning tyres in the middle of some principal streets.

These happened minutes after Mr. Mahama declared his unwillingness to accept the 2020 presidential and parliamentary results declared by the Electoral management body the EC.

Security personnel have since been deployed to curtail the situation to prevent it from further escalation.

After trying to calmly stop the aggrieved youth, the military had to resort to firing warning shots to disperse the people believed to be NDC supporters who poured out onto the streets to celebrate their presidential candidate’s rejection of the results.

Meanwhile FiilaNews has gathered that as at 5:30am today, the youth in Lamashegu and other areas had still not rescinded their decision to protest hence the continues burning of tyres and shooting within the metropolis.

After over 24 hours from election, the EC in a press conference on Wednesday, December 9, stated that the NPP’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo has polled 6,730,413 of the total valid votes representing 51.59% while John Mahama of the NDC had 6,214,889 which gives him 47.36% of the total votes cast in the December 7 polls.

This result has since been rejected by the leadership of the NDC and some supporters. Backing this stance, the flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama had questioned the credibility of the EC and rejected the verdict by the Commission.
