Pwalugu: Tomato factory will be operational next year – BRC

The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) has sought the services of a transaction advisor to ensure the revitalization of the Northern Star Tomato Factory in Pwalugu in the Upper East Region. The Advisor has undertaken all feasibility studies while financial considerations have been settled. All things being equal, the Northern Star Tomato Factory will be operational next year.

The Upper East Regional Director of Business Resource Centre (BRC) Michael Abogoro shared these when he spoke to Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show. He reiterated government’s commitment to industrialisation saying that there are other small to medium scale factories that will be operationalized in the region soon.

Mr. Abogoro mentioned the small scale leather factory in Yorogo, a suburb of Bolgatanga, as one of the factories. He mentioned that the leather factory has been completed and is awaiting commissioning. Other factories in the region are the shea butter extraction small scale factory in Bongo, the rice processing factory in Fumbisi which he said is 90 percent complete. He added that there is another small scale factory that is to tend to guinea fowls that is 97 percent complete in Bawku.

The Regional Manager of the BRC stated that the 2022 budget has made provision for the construction of an industrial park that will oversee the industralisation drive of the region directly under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
