PURC assures consumers’ interests won’t be compromised in tariff reviews

Chairperson of the Stakeholder, Communication and Research Committee at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has assured utility consumers in the Western Region that their interests will not be compromised during tariff review negotiations.

Speaking to Channel One TV News at a PURC-organised public hearing in Takoradi on the 2025–2029 Multi-Year Tariff Review Period, Nana Yaa Jantuah noted that while the Commission considers the concerns of utility service providers, it is equally committed to protecting consumers.

She stressed that the process would ensure fairness, adding that by the close of the review, consumers can expect a tariff that reflects a balanced outcome.

“We have a task of ensuring the financial viability of the utility service providers and also ensuring the consumer has a quality of service.

“But if the paper side of the balance is not tipped properly, that is unfair regulations, so we’re not going to hesitate at all to punish the utility service providers if they go wrong on the side of service delivery. We will use the law if they don’t do the right thing,” she said.
