Prosper Narteh Ogum’s sack was long overdue – Kotoko legend Sarfo Gyamfi

Narteh Ogum, who made a return to the Porcupine Warriors in July 2023, has been shown the exit door after going four matches without a win in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking to GhanaSportsPage, Gyamfi stressed that the Narteh Ogum had lost the dressing room and had fostered a toxic atmosphere among the players.

According to him, the decision to sack the former WAFA boss was long overdue.

“With what I hear from the dressing room, there are a lot of issues between the players and the coach, like some reports suggested earlier,” he said.

“I’m sorry to disclose this, but as a footballer, if your coach commends you in training and pushes you to work hard, even if you make mistakes, you feel encouraged. But when a coach resorts to insults—calling players ‘uncivilised’—it breaks the spirit. It was better for him to leave.”

Gyamfi, who was a key figure in Kotoko’s golden era during the late ’80s and early ’90s, did not mince words about his disapproval of Ogum’s tenure.

He claimed that the coach’s man-management style damaged team morale and was counterproductive to success.

“If I had the power, I would have sacked him long ago. He signed a lot of players, but the problems still remained.”

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko have appointed Karim Zito as a replacement for Prosper Narteh Ogum.
