Police Ladies stun Ampem Darkoa to win first Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title

Police Ladies clinched their first-ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title with a 2-0 win over defending champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday.

In a final played under heavy rain, both sides came out determined to wrap up the season on a high note. Police Ladies looked more composed in the opening half and were rewarded in the 27th minute when forward Jane Ayieyam found the back of the net after sustained pressure.

Ampem Darkoa pushed for an equaliser in the second half but were kept at bay by a disciplined Police defence. With the clock winding down, Victoria Teye Williams struck in the 89th minute to seal a memorable night for Police Ladies.

The result ends Ampem Darkoa’s recent dominance in the women’s league, having previously beaten Police Ladies 2-0 in the 2017 Super Cup.

Sunday’s triumph not only hands Police Ladies their maiden league trophy but also secures them a place in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League, a fitting reward for their consistency and commitment throughout the season.
