Pay us monies owed – AVRATE calls on Gov’t

The Branch Chairman of the Association of VRA Technician Engineers (AVRATE-NEDCO BRANCH)  has made an appeal to government to settle monies owed the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), to help in the smooth running of their business.

Mr. Sampson Atulley stated that the GHC 621 million owed NEDCo by government is very significant and has a toll on the operations of the company.

He further noted that the 5 years strategic plan of NEDCo which is aimed at providing improved services to its customers is suffering some implementation gaps, due to the lack of  monies owed them by government.

From the electricity consumptions of public institutions such as hospitals, educational institutions, MMDA’s among others, the government alone owes electricity bills amounting to over GHC 621 million.

Speaking to the media during the 2nd Biennial Delegates Congress of AVRATE in Tamale, the chairman of AVRATE noted that the association is only adding their voice to the several calls made to government to settle the monies owed them for the smooth implementation of their strategic plan.

On her part an Assistant-Chief technician engineer at VRA-NEDCo, Madam Fatima Kunadu Acquah disclosed to FiilaNews that the Perennial abuse of technicians on duty in the region is so unprofessional and must be stopped by duty bearers.

She expressed the unwillingness of most technical staff at NEDCo to work in the field when the need arises, attributing their actions to the enormous abuse they suffer during the discharge of their duty.

She meanwhile used the opportunity to encourage females to find interest in engineering as it is a good course to be pursued by the all gender.

Madam Fatima outlined that of the 192 technician engineers dotted around VRA-NEDCo’s operational areas, only 3 out of the number are made up of women which according to her is worrying.
