NRSA Engage Transport Operators on Regulatory Compliance in the Northern Region

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) as part of its initiative to make the transport industry a safe hub, has rolled out a regular engagement programme with key transport operators in the country.

The Authority on Tuesday October 4,2022, engaged transport operators in the Northern Region to educate them on regulatory directives established by the authority.

The engagement encompassed sharing ideas from crash investigations conducted by the NRSA for the past decade accompanied with a compliance audit report.

According to the Director of Regulations and Inspection, Kwame Koduah Atuahene, the prior motive of the engagement is to enlighten transport operators to enable them uplift their service delivery in an attempt to accomplish the authority’s objective to minimize road traffic crashes and injuries.

“…from January to September there has been a steady reduction in all the major indicators, particularly with the commercial transport sector” He said.

The Director pronounced that the authority has put in place punitive measures against transport operators who trample upon laws of the authority.

He however added that, the National Road Safety Authority cannot spell out the measures since they became an authority not long ago, however, numerous measures are being implemented to ensure that transport operators comply.

“…..very soon when we turn the new leaf we will begin to exert some measure of control” He stated.

In an interview with FiilaNews, one of the directors for Naa Zoori Travel and Tours, Mr. Mahama Jangdoo explained that, the National Road Safety Authority’s initiative will put transport owners on their toes and further educate the public on registered transport operators.

He however complained that, the National Road Safety Authority are unable to enact any laws or issue any sanctions at the moment and this has brought about lawlessness in the transport industry.

“….they can’t put a sanction that is why those people who are not able to make any progress in their transport business are still in business” He complained.

He therefore called on the National Road Safety Authority to hasten their processes to implement laws and sanctions that will keep unlawful operators off the road.
