NPP to petition Chief Justice for removal of Judge in Abronye case

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Justin Kodua Frimpong has disclosed that the party will petition the Chief Justice for the removal of Circuit court Judge, His Lordship Joseph Yenuban Kunsong.

“We find the conduct of the trial judge as unacceptable. To some extent it’s a misconduct and it’s not something we’re going to let go.

“We are filing a petition to the Chief Justice for Justice Yenuban Kunsong to be removed from the case of the Republic vs Abronye because we believe he has taken a stand in the case and he cannot be a judge in his own case. Therefore justice will be well served when the case is handed over to someone else,” he told journalists on Thursday, May 21, 2026 after Abronye was granted bail.

The NPP Bono Regional Chairman has been charged with offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and publication of false news.

According to the prosecution Abronye made derogatory remarks about a judge and attempted to incite the public against the court.

The High Court on Thursday, May 21 granted the NPP Bono Regional Chairman a GHC100,00 bail with two sureties to be justified after his lawyers prayed for same for him.
