Northern Regional Police Launch “Speak Up” Campaign Against Domestic Violence

The Northern Regional Police Command has launched a regional campaign against domestic violence, urging communities to break the culture of silence under the theme “Speak Up.”

Addressing the media at the launch in Tamale, the northern regional coordinator of domestic violence and victims support unit Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vicencia Aboagye described domestic violence as a “silent crisis” that continues to devastate families, affecting women, men, children, and vulnerable groups across the region.
ASP Aboagye explained that the campaign aims to raise public awareness about the widespread impact of domestic violence, stressing that it is not a private issue but one that threatens the health, safety, and well-being of entire communities.
She called on survivors to find their voices, bystanders to offer support, and communities to collectively take a stand against abuse. Institutions and duty bearers, she said, must also strengthen protection systems to ensure justice for victims.

Throughout the campaign, the Police Command plans to engage schools, community groups, and the media through outreach activities and education sessions, working closely with local leaders and stakeholders to challenge harmful social norms that perpetuate abuse.
Highlighting the media’s critical role, ASP Aboagye appealed to journalists to help amplify the voices of victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and spread the message into every home and district in the region.
The Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Wisdom Lavoe, reiterated the call, emphasizing that domestic violence affects everyone and urging all residents to join efforts to eliminate it. He assured the public of the Police Command’s commitment to support victims and pursue offenders to ensure justice is served.

The launch forms part of a broader strategy by the Northern Regional Police Command to make homes and communities safer for all.
