Nigeria pocket whopping $1 million as cash prize for winning 2024 WAFCON
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have etched their name deeper into history by securing a record-breaking $1 million prize after clinching the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) crown.

In a pulsating final held on July 26, 2025, at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the Falcons edged past hosts Morocco 3-2.
The defining moment came in the 88th minute when 24-year-old midfielder Jennifer Echegini expertly converted Esther Okoronkwo’s free-kick, sealing a remarkable second-half comeback.
This triumph marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, reaffirming their status as Africa’s most decorated women’s national team.
The $1 million prize pot reflects a significant 100% increase from the previous tournament, underscoring the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) renewed commitment to advancing women’s football across the continent.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe highlighted that this enhanced funding aims to elevate the remuneration of women players, coaches, and football staff, signaling a new era of investment in the women’s game.
