New FWSC board inaugurated to champion fairness in public sector pay

A seven-member governing board of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been inaugurated to promote fairness and transparency in public sector compensation.
The board, chaired by legal practitioner, Samuel Adu-Yeboah of Adom Mbrodo Law Chamber, comprises prominent professionals drawn from various fields, including law, public service, and the Ghana Employers Association.
Members of the board include Dr George Smith-Graham, Chief Executive of the FWSC; Annie Moghtar Mohayideen of S&AC Law; and Dr Prince E. Darah of the Public Services Commission (PSC).
Also on the board are Joyce Aseidu-Ofei, representing the Ghana Employers Association; Madam Hilda Ashie, a retired staff member of the FWSC; and Shadrack Mensah of the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
Speaking during the inauguration on Tuesday, August 5, the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Rashid Pelpuo, urged the board to uphold fairness and equity in administering public sector pay.
He underscored the pivotal role of the FWSC in fostering good governance and ensuring just compensation practices in the public sector.
The Minister also acknowledged the difficulty of managing the public service wage bill within a sustainable economic framework and reiterated the need for an Independent Emoluments Commission to address persistent disparities in wages and salary administration.
He congratulated the board members on their appointment, commended them for their willingness to serve, and tasked them with formulating strategies to curb labour unrest arising from inequities in pay.
He further assured the board of his full cooperation and support, expressing confidence in their expertise and commitment to duty.
Responding on behalf of the board, Samuel Adu-Yeboah expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for their appointment and the opportunity to contribute to the work of the Commission.
