The Northern Development Authority (NDA), has commenced the drilling of 30 boreholes in the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District of the North East region.
About 30 communities in the District are benefiting from the drilling of the boreholes as part of the mandate of the NDA.
The beneficiary communities are
Kauk, Tojin Dauk, Tojin Dickson Kuan, Pagnatik, Nanyiar, Konbon Kuan, Naboak Konlan Kuan, Bamong, Nakpeuk, Kpentaung, Konbonaaba Dim, Bunkpurugu, Naadaani, Jabdawuur, Chintulung No 2 (Jilig Wunwok), Bimbating, Bimbagu Tangkuan, Balinfeuk, Tomoni, Konmoung Gberuk.
The rest are Nakpanduri Amoakura, Nakpanduri Langobik, Kpemale – Konkomba Area, Duklotuk, Nakpanduri, Kambagu Kunkook, Gbankoni Toopeena, Nasiabok, Gberuk Kunkook Market, Najong No. 2 – Nankpanjina(Naboak Area) and Najong No. 1.
The Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District is faced with a water crisis that has impacted economic activities in the area compelling some residents to make do with water from dams and streams.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of NDA, who is aspiring to lead the good people of the Bunkpurugu constituency on the ticket of the NPP, Lawyer Sulley Sambian, noted that NDA’s mandate is to accelerate economic and social development of the Northern ecological zone and that the water crisis in the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District has been a long age issue which urgently needed some attention.
“NDA will ensure that no community is left behind because it’s our mandate and that is the reason why we have started the borehole project to provide quality and accessible water to the people of Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District. It is our sacred duty to work to improve the standard of living of our people”.
According to him, NDA has many projects dotted across the Northern ecological zone and assured that every community will get a share of the national cake.
Residents of some of the beneficiary communities expressed their excitement when they saw contractors with their equipment commencing the drilling of the boreholes in their communities.
According to them, the provision of potable water will be a source of relief to them as they have lacked access to potable water for many years.
“ We have been living and drinking from the dam in this community and so the new boreholes will mean that we will also have access to potable water and not just water but we will drink healthy water”.
