N/R: One dead, another injured in robbery attack at Nanumba South

One person has been shot dead after he was attacked by armed robbers at Nasamba in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region.

Another also sustained life-threatening wounds after the incident.

The attack happened at about 12 am on Monday, April 5, 2021, when the two were returning from Wulensi.

According to reports, the two were attacked after they refused to stop as directed by some highway robbers on a robbery spree.

One of the survivors who sustained cutlass wounds narrated to Citi News how the incident happened.

“We were coming on a motorbike in the night. Upon reaching a particular point, we saw a number of cars, so we thought they had broken down. When we reached there someone ordered us to stop. When we tried to ignore them, some of them pulled me down on the bike. I was on the ground struggling with them when my other colleague wanted to escape. I heard a gunshot and my friend fell, and I sustained cutlass wounds on my neck because they attacked me.”

Police have started investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, the acting Municipal Chief Executive for Nanumba North Assembly, Mr Abdulai Yaquob, has told Citi News that the situation is now getting out of hands and serious measures have to be taken to reduce the crime rate in the area.

He assured that the Municipal Security Council would take stringent measures to curb the situation.
