Mozambique pleads young not to join jihadists

The authorities in Mozambique have appealed to young people not to join the Islamist militants after admitting for the first time that dozens of people were killed earlier this month in one of the worst attacks since the insurgency began in 2017.
A police spokesman said the attack in the gas-rich Cabo Delgado province happened after people had refused to join the jihadists.
Officials have very rarely confirmed any reports of violence in the area. But for the first time the police in Mozambique confirmed that the militants shot dead 52 young people in a village in Muidumbe District.
